About Mass of the Americas

Frank La Rocca’s Mass of the Americas was conceived by Archbishop Cordileone as a twinned tribute to Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception (patroness of the United States) and Our Lady of Guadalupe (patroness of Mexico and all the Americas). It elevates much-loved Mexican folk hymns to Our Lady and includes possibly the first Ave Maria hymn ever composed in Nahautl, the Aztec language Our Lady spoke to St. Juan Diego (the “Aue Maria”).

“The most important thing that happened Saturday is that we came together to worship God in a solemn and fitting way. Christ came. We shared his Body and Blood,” said Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone, “The Mass of the Americas is an example of continuity in Catholic worship, adhering faithfully to the principles laid out by the Second Vatican Council. This Mass treasures the beauty and solemnity of our Catholic patrimony while contributing to it in our own time.”
