“Our Lady’s Lullaby”

Fr. Dwight Longenecker has put new words to a traditional Welsh lullaby “Suo Gân” (perhaps best known for its recent appearance in the Disney film “Empire of the Sun”). 

This world premiere performance took place on December 15, 2024, at Star of the Sea Church in San Francisco, as part of the Benedict XVI Institute’s annual Very Marian Advent Prayer Service. An eight-voice schola was conducted by Maestro Timothy McDonnell, bringing this new contribution to the Catholic Christmas repertoire to life for the first time.

The Very Marian Advent Prayer Service is centered on a simple but powerful idea: waiting with Mary through the last difficult month of her pregnancy for the birth of her Son and our Savior, Jesus Christ.

This carol is available both in a premiere version and in a simpler form suitable for parishes. Catholic composer William J. Fritz has composed the new arrangement. (Visit Cyprian Studios to learn more about Will Fritz).
