“Our Lady Expectant” is based on a poem by Roseanne T. Sullivan set to music by Wilhelmina Pariseau.
The hymn uses language from the O Antiphons to express Mary’s longing to see her child and the whole world’s longing for a Savior. Premiering in 2023, this performance took place on December 15, 2024, at Star of the Sea Church in San Francisco, as part of the Benedict XVI Institute’s annual Very Marian Advent Prayer Service. An eight-voice schola was conducted by Maestro Timothy McDonnell, bringing this new contribution to the Catholic Christmas repertoire to life for the first time.
The Very Marian Advent Prayer Service is centered on a simple but powerful idea: waiting with Mary through the last difficult month of her pregnancy for the birth of her Son and our Savior, Jesus Christ.
